How FIFA erased the words '100% Jesus' from the headband that Neymar was sporting in one of the videos screened at the Ballon d'Or event. But the universal body of Christ continue to hail Neymar Jr for his bold declaration
The Brazilian star whipped out this religious tribute after the final whistle in the Champions League final in Berlin and proudly wore it during the trophy celebrations. However, when the world governing body showed footage of these scenes during the video introducing Neymar as one of the three Ballon d'Or finalists, alongside Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, the message 100% Jesus had been blurred out.
FIFA have justified their actions by saying that the decision was made to avoid offending attendees' and viewers' sensibilities. But Neymar's action continue to challenge Christians all over the world.
Who do you promote in the best moments of your life, when you are on the spotlight? I was really inspired as a Christian, when I saw Neymar Jr. put that Bandana with inscription “100% Jesus; after FC Barcelona defeated Juventus at the UEFA Champions league finals in Berlin Germany 2016.
.
It wasn't the first time though, in 2016 Rio Olympics when Brazil Men soccer team won the gold medal Neymar did the same thing with the headband.
As Brazil won the Gold medal defeating Germany in a penalty shootout at the Olympics Game, Rio 2016, Neymar scored the decisive goal busting into tears and falling on his knees as he celebrated the victory that won the Gold.
But something else aside Neymar’s tears of joy or jubilation was the side attraction. As he celebrated, noticeable was his head band that read “100% Jesus”
It wasn’t the first time the footballer will be seen wearing the headband, as a matter of fact, it goes way back to his childhood.
As a child, Neymar wore a head band that read “100% Jesus” and went to church in Sao Vincent. Some have said the story of the head band is associated with his football club while he was still playing at home. It was said that Neymar wore the head band as an appreciation to God for miraculously providing a football pitch for his home base club at the time.
Also in 2012, Neymar. sported the head band and raced around the field after his former team Santos secured the 2012 Sao Paulo State Championship. He also celebrated the 2015 Champions League with a white head band on his head with the message “100% Jesus”.
While the story could not be ascertain, one the is for sure, there is a reason behind Neymar’s head band.
Whatever the reason is, Neymar made a clear statement of intent to not only the thousands of spectators in the stadium but also to the millions watching on T.V. Jesus is at the center of Neymar’s life and so must take part in his celebrations
It was indeed one of the world's biggest stage, over 2 billion spectators across the globe viewing the same match. And Neymar Jr thought in his heart that if his team FC Barcelona wins he was going to put on that Headband to declare his faith to the whole world.
Tying a headband to his forehead with the simple message – ‘100% Jesus’. Neymar made a clear statement of belief, not only to the 74 thousand spectators in Berlin’s Olympic stadium but also to the billions watching on T.V. across the World.
100% Jesus, Nothing More, Nothing Less, Neymar in solemn dedication of his success and triumph to Jesus. He is emphatically saying Jesus is the Lord of my life! And the power behind all my successes!
Perhaps, he was following the footstep of his fellow Brazilian – Kaka, who had severally declared that he was sent to the football world to preach the gospel. Kaka had adorned several inscriptions such as: “I belong to Jesus,” “Kaka the son of God.”
So who do you promote when it matters most, despite the pressures and sophiscations of places you may find yourself? Who are you promoting in your business, Office, School or even on your social media pages?
Remember Mark 8:38 "If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”
