"End of An Era" Kohima Players to Hang their Boots Launches New Jersey to Inspire the Next Generation in Nagaland

 


End of an Era, a club based in Kohima launches their football jersey for the upcoming 23rd NSF Martyr’s Memorial Trophy 2023 scheduled to begin from Monday evening at IG Stadium Kohima. 


The club ‘End of an Era’ is a squad of Nagaland Senior football team that have come together to play together for one last time together at the NSF Trophy, where many of the footballers will be hanging up their boots with the tournament. 


Nagaland Football Association President & AIFF Executive member K. Neibou Sekhose officially launched the jersey at 2K hotel Kohima on Saturday evening. In his speech, Sekhose acknowledged the contribution of the senior footballers towards Nagaland Football. He hoped that the club will inspire the younger generation through their participation and give back to the society with what they have learned over the years. 


He expressed optimism that the footballers can become coaches, mentors or referees thereafter, so that the younger generation will follow their footsteps to complete in the district, state and national levels.


The program was attended by Kohima District Football Association President Matthew Yhome and Chief of Referees Kutu Sekhose. The program was led by Kiyakhrienuo Solo, invocation by Temjen Ao, and special song by Vivonuo Belho and Moko Koza. 


According to an update from the club, the team comprises of mostly veteran players with an aim to compete in the competitive tournament before retirement. “It’s a mixed squad both young and old players” stated the club press release. 


The team hoped that by playing in the tournament together, they will be able to inspire younger generation that football should be played with an aim to reach higher goals rather than leisure. It is a “game of hope” said the club. 


They hope that the team will be able to create brotherhood, togetherness, love and passion for the game with common aim to win in life as well. “We’ve been into football for a very long time bringing laurels for the state as well. It will be our last dance for us though it will be hard for us to do so,” said footballer Ating Konyak who is part of the team.
